Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday provisionally attached immovable properties worth more than ₹20.9 crore in two separate investigations linked to alleged financial irregularities in engineering admissions and police recruitment in Karnataka.
In the engineering seat blocking case, the agency attached a plot and two residential flats valued at Rs 19.46 crore belonging to trustees of the BMS Educational Trust, as reported by Deccan Herald. The probe stems from FIRs registered by Bengaluru police following allegations that engineering aspirants were illegally charged cash amounts over and above prescribed fees during admissions routed through the Karnataka Examinations Authority. Investigators have alleged that seats in colleges run by the trust were sold through intermediaries and kept outside official records. Unaccounted cash was collected directly from students and educational consultants.
The DH report further reported that searches conducted in June 2025 led to the seizure of ₹1.86 crore in cash and recovery of material indicating unaccounted collections of ₹20.20 crore. Statements from staff, management and agents corroborated the findings, the agency said, adding that the proceeds were allegedly used for personal benefit by the trustees.
Separately, the agency attached residential properties worth ₹1.53 crore in the 2021-22 Police Sub-Inspector recruitment scam, involving former Additional Director General of Police Amrit Paul and head constable Sridhar H. The investigation was initiated on the basis of FIRs registered by the High Grounds Police Station and the CID after allegations of manipulation in the selection process for 545 PSI posts.
According to the agency, Amrit Paul facilitated unauthorized access to the strong room where OMR answer sheets were stored by handing over keys to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shanth Kumar, enabling accomplices to tamper with answer sheets to favour certain candidates. The accused allegedly collected bribes ranging from ₹30 lakh to ₹ 70 lakh per candidate, with the funds routed as purported hand loans and used to construct residential properties.
