Employee steals 4.5 kg gold from owner's shop in Andhra Pradesh
Amaravati (PTI): The Andhra Pradesh police are on the hunt for an employee of a pawn broker shop for allegedly stealing 4.5 kg gold worth more than Rs 1.1 crore, police said on Monday.
Santhilal Jain, who runs the shop in Kovvuru town in East Godavari district doing collateral business in gold ornaments had employed Sessetti Ramu.
Ramu was taking care of the daily transactions as well as the locker keys for the last eight years. On Sunday, a customer called up Jain as the shop was not opened. Jain tired to call Ramu over phone as the keys were with him. However, his phone was switched off.
Later, Jain called Ramu's wife and collected the keys from Pavan, one of the accused friend. When he opened the shop, Jain found only 1 kg gold stored, police said.
Konaseema district SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy, who is also handling the neighbouring East Godavari district presently said that some collateral gold was sold to other jewellery shops in Kovvuru.
According to police, a total of 4.5 kg gold was stolen from Jain's shop.
Police have registered a case under IPC Section 381 (Theft by clerk or servant of property in possession) and launched a manhunt for Ramu.

UP: Teen girl found hanging from tree; locals claim rape, murder
Pratapgarh (UP) (PTI): The body of a 19-year-old woman was found hanging from a tree in a village under the Manikpur police station area here on Sunday morning, police said.
According to the police, the woman had gone to sleep after dinner on Saturday night but was found hanging in an orchard nearly 400 metres away from her home the following morning.
Additional Superintendent of Police (West), Brijnandan Rai, stated that the circumstances suggest foul play.
"The victim's slippers and undergarments were recovered 50 metres away from the spot where the body was found. There are visible injury marks on her body," Rai said.
While locals have alleged that the woman was murdered after being raped, the ASP said that it is "prima facie a case of murder."
"Based on the complaint filed by the victim's brother, a case of murder has been registered against unidentified persons. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination," the officer added.
Police further clarified that if the medical report confirms sexual assault, relevant sections will be added to the FIR.
Forensic experts and police teams have collected evidence from the spot and are investigating the matter from all angles.
