Lucknow, Jan 16 (PTI): Former Uttar Pradesh minister and OBC leader Dara Singh Chauhan joined the Samajwadi Party on Sunday, days after he resigned from the Yogi Adityanath cabinet ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.

On Friday, former ministers Swami Prasad Maurya and Dharam Singh Saini, five BJP MLAs and one from the Apna Dal (Sonelal) joined the Samajwadi Party.

Apna Dal (Sonelal) is an ally of the BJP.

Besides Chauhan, Apna Dal (Sonelal) MLA from Vishvanathganj Assembly constituency in Pratapgarh district R K Verma too on Sunday joined the Akhilesh Yadav-led party which has emerged as the main challenger to the BJP in the state.

While joining the Samajwadi party, Chauhan trained his guns at the BJP, saying, "When the BJP formed government in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, it gave the slogan 'sabka saath, sabka vikaas'... But, 'vikaas' (development) of a handful of people was done and the rest were left to their fate."

Terming the Samajwadi Party as his "old home", he said, "We will change the politics of Uttar Pradesh, and make Akhilesh Yadav the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh once again."

Bengaluru: Karnataka Police sub-inspector Shantappa Kurubara, also known as Shantappa Jademmanavar, has achieved a remarkable feat by cracking the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, securing an all India rank of 644.

Shantappa gained attention for his efforts to mentor children residing in a migrant labor settlement in Bengaluru, as highlighted in a video story by Vartha Bharati. He dedicated his time to teaching several children from migrant laborer families, aiming to empower them through education.

Currently serving at the Sriramapura police station, Shantappa had previously initiated a campaign advocating for public toilets along the Bengaluru-Tumakuru highway. Despite receiving no response from authorities, he took matters into his own hands and established a mobile toilet at the Goraguntepalya junction. Notably, he invited a transgender person to inaugurate the facility.

Shantappa's motivation for this campaign stemmed from his mother's struggle to find a public toilet at the Goraguntepalya junction.

The UPSC results revealed Aditya Srivastava as the top-ranked candidate nationally, followed by Animesh Pradhan and Donuru Ananya Reddy in the second and third positions, respectively.

In total, 1,016 candidates have been recommended for appointment by the UPSC, marking a significant milestone in their respective careers.
