Mangaluru: A fire broke out due to a short circuit in an apartment situated on the second floor of a building near Rao and Rao Circle in the heart of the city on Monday morning, resulting in the destruction of various items in the house.

While the house had been rented out to students, no casualty has been reported in the fire accident.

The Pandeshwar fire brigade was informed and fire tenders were sent to the building. The fans in the house were reportedly turned on to let the smoke out. As the apartment as well as the second floor of the building was filled with thick smoke, the personnel were forced to cover their faces with masks and use oxygen cylinders while dousing the flames.

The short circuit is suspected to have occurred when the heater was under use. The sofa and electronic items were gutted in the fire. The loss occurred due to the accident is estimated to be Rs 75,000.

Raichur (Karnataka) (PTI): Fire broke out near the stage of the mass marriage event that was attended by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar here, police said on Sunday.

Nobody was affected, and the fire was immediately put out, they said.

The fire was noticed shortly after Shivakumar and other dignitaries left the stage, and Forest Minister Eshwaran Khandre was speaking to the media at the venue in Sindhanur, officials said.

According to officials, wires, speakers, and cloth materials near the stage caught fire, allegedly due to a short circuit.

Police personnel present at the spot quickly swung into action and extinguished the fire.

The programme was halted for some time and resumed later, they said.

Several ministers, legislators and political leaders from the region, and actor Sudeep had attended the event.
