New Delhi: The Central government has decided to confer Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, to former Deputy Prime Minister and BJP veteran LK Advani.

In a post on his personal 'X' account on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour."

The PM posted further, "One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental. His is a life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister. He distinguished himself as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His Parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights."

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to rape convict Asaram Bapu, who is serving a life sentence for sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 2013. The 86-year-old has been granted bail until March 31, 2025, citing medical grounds.

A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal observed that Bapu is suffering from various age-related ailments, including a heart condition. He is currently under treatment at the Arogya Medical Centre in Jodhpur.

The court directed that Asaram Bapu must not meet his followers or tamper with evidence during his bail period. He has been serving his sentence at Jodhpur Central Jail.
