New Delhi: Former Union Minister and two-time MP Sanjeev Balyan has accused the Uttar Pradesh police of withdrawing his security cover in retaliation for his stance against corruption. In a letter to Chief Minister Adityanath, Balyan alleged that his protest against the "illegal" occupation of temple land by a distillery led to this action, which he claims puts his safety at risk.

Balyan, who represented Muzaffarnagar in western Uttar Pradesh until his defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, expressed concerns about his personal security. Referring to a previous attack during the elections, he warned, “The state government and its officials will be responsible if I am attacked in the future.”

The former minister has also been named in a case related to the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, where he and other BJP leaders face charges of making provocative speeches. Last week, an MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh framed charges against him and others involved in the case.

In his letter, Balyan criticized the state government’s treatment of him, stating, “If a former Union Minister is being treated like this, imagine the situation faced by ordinary BJP workers.”

Bengaluru, Jan 14: The Karnataka High Court has quashed the criminal proceedings against Kannada actress Ragini Dwivedi in a drug case, saying the prosecution could not substantiate the charges with material evidence.

The bench of Justice Hemant Chandanagoudar also quashed the proceedings against the co-accused Prashant Ranka.

It said, "However, to substantiate the charges against the petitioners, the prosecution has not produced any material evidence to prove that the petitioners organized parties or sold drugs, apart from the voluntary statements of the co-accused and chargesheet witnesses."

"Therefore, the continuation of the criminal proceedings against the petitioners will be an abuse of the legal process of law,” Justice Chandanagoudar observed.

Ragini was among the many celebrities from the Kannada film industry arrested in September 2020.

A case was registered against her at the Cottonpet police station based on a statement by a co-accused B K Ravishankar on September 4, 2020.
