Warangal, August 18: Amrapali Kata, the Urban Collector of Warangal in Telangana recently told a private web channel that she believes that there was a ghost at the government bungalow allotted to her by the district administration. A video of the shocking admission has gone viral on social media. While her claims remain to be verified by a paranormal expert, Kata’s statement has definitely stirred a controversy.

In the video, the high ranking official can be seen sharing interesting facts about the bungalow apart from claiming that there was a ghost co-inhabiting the space with her. The foundation stone of the home was laid by Mrs George Palmer who was the wife of a superintendent engineer posted here about 133 years ago, said Kata.

Examination of signatures and other documents has led Deccan Chronicle to confirm that George Palmer was indeed the man responsible for laying roads around the time. Under the Nizam's rule, Palmer was also in charge of the construction of buildings in several areas in and around Karimnagar, Khammam, and Warangal.

Kata also said that the building which is more than 130 years old has started developing cracks. With a ceiling as high as 20-ft in one of the rooms, the bungalow has corners which allow rainwater to enter it. Renovation work is currently underway at the building, she added.

Officers who were posted in Warangal before her reportedly told the district collector that they had experienced paranormal activities on the first floor of the bungalow. They warned me to not sleep on the first floor which was used like a storeroom since there is a ghost there, said Kata. The official further added that she had the entire place cleaned up after she moved in, however, she never dared to sleep on the first floor of the bungalow where she believes a ghost is awaiting company for almost 133 years now.

Kolkata (PTI): Seven people were arrested from the Parnashree area in the southern part of the city for allegedly running a fake call centre, a police officer said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house on Netaji Subhas Road on Friday night and found the fake call centre operating from the ground floor, he said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had set up a bogus company using forged documents and posed as employees of an antivirus firm to call citizens in the US, the officer said.

"The callers would gain the trust of victims and then use remote access to take control of their phones or other digital devices. The accused allegedly siphoned off large sums of money, running into millions of dollars, from victims' accounts," he said.

Five laptops, two WiFi routers, six mobile phones and four headsets were seized from the accused, he said, adding that the seven are being questioned to ascertain the full extent of the racket and to identify others involved.
