Patna: Throwing an exam chit to help his sister cost a 12-year-old boy in Bhojpur district his life, as another girl, who received the chit, mistook it for a love letter and complained to her brothers.
The incident is said to have occurred on October 13, police said, adding that nine people have been arrested in connection with the case.
The brothers of a girl student in Bhojpur district are learned to have kidnapped, badly assaulted and killed the boy who threw the chit, recently. The victim has been identified as Daya Kumar, resident of Udwantnagar, said the police.
Daya Kumar and his cousin studied at the local upgraded middle school in Grade 5 and Grade 6, respectively. Their exams were held on October 13.
The boy, in an attempt to help his cousin, threw a chit towards her, but the chit landed near another girl. The second girl, who mistook the chit to be a love letter, complained to her brothers about the matter, said officials, reports Times of India.
The brothers of the girl, who came to the school, kidnapped and assaulted Daya Kumar, hacking him to death, the victim’s relatives are reported to have told the police.
The police recovered the victim’s body near the railway track on Monday, four days after the incident.
They have arrested four juveniles and five adult family members of the girl in connection with the case. The juveniles have been sent to remand homes, while the youths have been jailed, said police sources.

Guwahati (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday resigned along with his cabinet colleagues, paving the way for formation of a new government led by the BJP, officials said.
The BJP-led NDA bagged 102 seats in the 126-member assembly. The assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 9, and counting of votes took place on May 4.
"Following the formal notification of the results of #AssamElections2026 and to enable the formation of the new government, Dr @himantabiswa tendered his resignation as Chief Minister along with that of the council of Ministers to Hon'ble Governor Shri @Laxmanacharya54 today at Lok Bhawan," the Chief Minister's Office said in a post on X.

The Governor has accepted the resignation, and requested Sarma to continue as the caretaker CM till the new government assumes office, it said.
Later, speaking to reporters outside the Lok Bhawan, Sarma said the oath-taking ceremony is likely to take place after May 11.
“As it was a historic win, we have invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grace the occasion," he said.
The new Assam chief minister will be selected at a meeting of the BJP legislature party in presence of central observers, Sarma said.
