Thrissur: The pond of the Guruvayur Shri Krishna Temple here will undergo purification rituals on Tuesday as a non-Hindu vlogger washed her feet in the waters of the pond recently.

A six-day-old reel of Jasmin Jaffer, a former Bigg Boss contestant and social media influencer, has gone viral on social media, following which the administration board of the temple announced that the pond would be purified.

The Guruvayur Devaswom has said that Jasmin Jaffer, a non-Hindu, has violated the temple customs and rendered the pond impure.

As part of the purification process, the darshan timings have been restricted from 5 am to noon, temple sources have said. They added that the rituals will be repeated for six days and include 18 kinds of poojas and 18 sheevelis.

Devotees will be permitted to enter the nalambalam only after the purification rituals are completed and are requested to cooperate with the temple administration board with regard to the temporary restrictions.

OB Arun Kumar, Devaswom administrator, has filed a complaint with the temple police, citing violation of the sanctity of the pond. He also said it was an act of disobedience of the High Court order prohibiting photography and videography at the temple’s restricted zones. The police have informed the court that a case would be registered as per the court’s directive.

Jaffer, who has deleted the video clip, issued an apology for washing her feet in the temple pond. She also clarified that she was unaware of the restrictions related to the temple.

Kundapur: Two persons died and several students were injured after a college tour bus rammed into a tanker and a goods lorry parked by the roadside near Maravanthe Beach in Trasi on Wednesday afternoon.

The bus was carrying final-year B.Com students of Rambhapuri College from Shivamogga district. According to sources, the group had left for the tour two days ago.

There were around 50 persons in the bus, including 24 male students and 23 female students.

The students had visited Murdeshwar and were travelling towards Udupi on Wednesday when the accident occurred.

Police said the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, following which the bus first hit a parked gas tanker and then crashed into a goods lorry stationed ahead.

The front portion of the bus was badly mangled in the impact. Preliminary information said the bus cleaner and a cooking assistant travelling with the group died in the accident. Several injured students were shifted to different hospitals in Kundapur for treatment.
