Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), July 26: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Surendra Singh opined that every Hindu couple must have at least five children for Hindutva to remain intact.
Singh, in an interview to ANI, said this step is necessary to increase the population of Hindus in India.
"It is the desire of every spiritual leader (mahant) for every couple to have a minimum of five children. This way the population will be under control, and Hindutva would remain intact," he noted.
Surendra Singh has been in the news, time and again, for his controversial statements.
Earlier this month, the BJP MLA from Ballia had triggered a controversy by saying that even Lord Ram would not have been able to put an end to the rising rape incidents.
"This is natural pollution, which has not left anybody untouched. It is people's responsibility to treat others as their family, as their sisters. We can only control it through values, not the constitution," Singh said when asked about the sudden spurt in incidents of sexual abuse in Uttar Pradesh.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.
The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).
"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.
The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.
