HC admits CBI's appeal challenging acquittal of A Raja, others in 2G scam case
New Delhi (PTI): The Delhi High Court on Friday admitted the CBI's appeal challenging acquittal of former telecom minister A Raja, firms and others in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case.
Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma said on the basis of the material on record and the submissions made by the lawyers for the parties, a prima facie case is made out by the CBI which requires deeper examination and the appeal needs to be heard in detail.
"Leave to appeal is granted. List the appeal for hearing in May," the judge said.
The high court passed the judgement on CBI's "leave to appeal", paving the way for dealing with the appeal on merits against the trial court's verdict.
The appeal was filed by the CBI in 2018.
"Leave to appeal" is a formal permission granted by a court to a party to challenge a decision in a higher court.
The judge had reserved his decision on this aspect on March 14.
The special court had, on December 21, 2017, acquitted Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and others in the CBI and ED cases related to the 2G scam.

No change in Chief Minister: Home Minister G. Parameshwar responds to R. Ashok
Bengaluru: In response to opposition leader R. Ashok's remarks, Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar firmly stated that there would be no change in the Chief Ministership within the ruling party. Speaking to reporters outside his residence in Sadashivnagar, Parameshwar criticised Ashok for meddling in the party's internal matters, urging him to focus on resolving issues within his own party.
"We will not change the Chief Minister. It is the party members who will decide any changes. Let R. Ashok handle the disputes within his party," Parameshwar said.
He further dismissed any speculation about a possible change in leadership, emphasizing that the government is functioning smoothly. "There is already a Chief Minister, and governance is ongoing. The court case is still pending, so there is no need to initiate discussions about this matter," he added.
Parameshwar also assured that all ministers are actively working, with neither officers nor government secretaries sitting idle. He clarified that the Chief Minister's absence from recent events is due to ongoing court proceedings but insisted that the administration is running effectively.
Addressing concerns raised by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change regarding the Yettinahole project, Parameshwar stated that environmental compliance has been met, and other project-related work is progressing. He acknowledged concerns from the Wildlife Board about potential environmental damage but assured that the project has been conducted without causing harm. The relevant department is expected to respond to these concerns soon.
