Popular detergent brand Surf Excel is facing a boycott movement from netizens who are objecting to one of its Holi special advertisement promoting communal harmony between Muslims and Hindu.
The one-minute video advertisement portrays a Hindu girl helping a Muslim boy reach a nearby mosque unstained. While other kids in the streets are busy throwing colors on commuters of the streets to mark the occasion of Hindu festival Holy.
The girl dressed in White dress, asks the kids throwing colors to stain her with colors and continues to do so until all the kids run out of color filled balloons and instruments to further color someone. The girl then calls upon her Muslim friend to come out of his house as he won’t be colored now.
The ad ends with popular tagline of the brand ‘Daag ache hai’ (Stains are good).
The advertisement which was published on February 27 this year has garnered over 8.7 million views on YouTube till date besides being shared by several other channels and pages on various social media platforms.
While the Hindustan Unilever, owner of Surf Excel, released the ad to promote communal harmony between two communities, it hasn’t gone down too well with a section of people finding it humiliating, Hindu phobic. Some event went on to add that the advertisement promotes Love Jihad hence hurting the sentiments of Hindu religion.
People took to twitter to express their dissent over the ad and called for boycotting the brand Surf Excel for releasing such contents.
However, people were also seen appreciating the work of brand for promoting communal harmony and also defended the ad video on micro-blogging site twitter.

I do not know about other religions but as a hindu I believe in unity of all. Without seeing other persons color, religion or caste our moral duty is to stand together. This advertisement can be monopoly or not but this is what our religion taught us.#SurfExcel. pic.twitter.com/RV6ME3NPwA

Bengaluru: Vidyaranyapura police have arrested four persons, including a man posing as a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), for allegedly breaking into a house, threatening the occupants, and extorting money while wearing police uniforms.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mallikarjuna, Pramod, Vinay, and Hrithik.
Police said the accused had hatched a plan to pose as police personnel, conduct fake raids, and extort money from residents by intimidation.

According to the police, Mallikarjuna had failed the PSI examination twice and later falsely projected himself as a PSI. He allegedly conducted photo shoots in his hometown, Siraguppa, wearing a police uniform, baton, cap, and shoes, claiming to be serving as a PSI in Bengaluru.
On December 7, the four accused allegedly went to the house of Naveen in the Vidyaranyapura limits, threatened him with a stick and an iron rod, and claimed they had information that he was selling ganja. Under the pretext of searching, they allegedly extorted ₹87,000 through bank transfer, ₹53,000 in cash kept in the house, and ₹2,000 from his wallet.
Following Naveen’s complaint, Vidyaranyapura police registered a case and launched an operation, leading to the arrest of all four accused. Police have seized ₹45,000 in cash and the car used to commit the crime.
Further investigation is underway.
