Thrissur: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday strongly criticised Israel for its reported air strikes on multiple locations in Iran, including its capital Tehran, calling the country a “longtime global thug” that acts with impunity due to the support it receives from the United States.

Speaking to reporters in Thrissur, Vijayan condemned Israel’s actions and expressed serious concern over the escalating tensions in West Asia. “Israel has been acting like a global thug for a long time. It does not follow the usual standards of decency and international conduct,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister’s response came in light of media reports that Israeli forces had carried out aerial attacks targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and military installations early Friday morning. The strikes, which reportedly hit areas in and around Tehran, mark a dangerous new flashpoint in the ongoing conflict in the region.

Vijayan said that Israel’s continued aggression could not be justified and blamed the backing of the United States for Israel’s “arrogant belief” that it can act without consequence. “They think they can do anything because they have the support of the US,” he said.

He further cautioned that such attacks pose a serious threat to international stability. “These kinds of aggressive actions endanger world peace. Those who care about global harmony must stand up and condemn such behaviour,” he added.

Vijayan has been vocal in his criticism of Israel in the past, especially over its military operations in Gaza and Palestine.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.

Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
