New Delhi: Congress media cell in-charge Jairam Ramesh has asked why the Delhi Police wished to question Rahul Gandhi about his remark in Srinagar on ‘women still being sexually assaulted’ more than a month since curtains were drawn on the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The Congress MP has questioned the timing of the Delhi Police’s arrival at Rahul Gandhi’s residence on Sunday morning to get information on the women, reports India Today.

Ramesh said, “It’s been 45 days since Bharat Jodo Yatra ended. They (Delhi police) are going for questioning after 45 days. If they are so much concerned why didn't they go to him in February? Rahul Gandhi's legal team will respond to it as per law.”

The police, taking cognizance of the social media posts in response to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, sent Rahul Gandhi on March 16 a questionnaire and asked him for details on the women who had told him that they had been sexually harassed.

The Congress, however, told the police, “We will respond to the notice in due course in accordance with law.”

The Delhi Police visited Rahul Gandhi since the Congress allegedly did not respond to their questions. Two senior police officials also went inside Rahul Gandhi’s residence, said sources.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said, “Without Amit Shah's order, it is not possible that police could show such audacity to enter the house of a national leader without any reason. Rahul Gandhi said that he has received the notice & he will reply to it but still, the police went to his house.”
