New Delhi, Aug 7 : Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and said like former Chief Minister Jayalalitha, Kalaignar was an expression of the voice of the Tamil people and deserves to be given space on Marina Beach.

He said India has lost a great son, who strode the stage of Tamil politics like a colossus for over six decades.

"Loved by the Tamilian people, Kalaignar strode the stage of Tamil politics, like a colossus, for over 6 decades. In his passing, India has lost a great son. My condolences to his family as also to the millions of Indians who grieve for their beloved leader tonight," Gandhi said in a tweet.

"Like Jayalalitha ji, Kalaignar was an expression of the voice of the Tamil people. That voice deserves to be given space on Marina Beach. I am sure the current leaders of Tamil Nadu will be magnanimous in this time of grief," he said.

Karunanidhi, 94, passed away on Tuesday evening. He was admitted to the hospital on July 28 and his condition worsened on Monday.

Bengaluru: The Special Court for People's Representatives has directed an investigation into Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding allegations of illegal land allotment by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

The order was issued by a bench led by Justice Gajanana Bhatt, following a petition filed by Mysuru-based social activist Snehamai Krishna.

The court has instructed the Mysuru Lokayukta Superintendent of Police to conduct the probe and submit a report within three months.
