Kasargod: The CPM and BJP activists were brutally murdered within hours on late Monday night in Kannur.

A group of assailants came on vehicles and killed the CPM worker with lethal weapons. CPM worker Babu (45) died on the spot.

Soon after this murder, A BJP activist -an auto driver- was killed. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Shanoj.

A gang killed Shanoj with lethal weapons when he was proceeding towards his home in the auto. Severely injured Shanoj was shifted to a hospital in Khozikode, where he succumbed to injuries.

Babu Mahe was the former member of Municipal Council.

While the CPM and BJP workers are blaming each other, the specific reason behind the murders is yet to be ascertained. However, both the parties have called for a hartal to condemn the killings.

The situation turned tense in the area following the incidents.

Jammu (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Friday night ahead of the hectic day-long campaigning on Saturday during which he will address five public rallies in three districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah arrived here from Delhi and drove straight to the State Guest house, a senior BJP leader said.

Shah will fly to Poonch early tomorrow morning and address the first of four rallies in Mendhar followed by Surankote in Poonch district, he added.

Shah is scheduled to address rallies in Thanamandi and Rajouri followed by Akhnoor in Jammu.

He is also expected to hold a rally in the Nowshera constituency in support of Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina on Sunday.
