Haridwar: In Haridwar's Manglaur area, a group of 'kanwariyas' vandalized an e-rickshaw and assaulted its driver after the vehicle accidentally collided with one of the pilgrims. The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Libberhedi region under Manglaur Kotwali jurisdiction and was captured on video, which has since gone viral on social media.

The driver, Sanjay Kumar, reported to Haridwar SSP Paramendra Singh Dobhal that although his e-rickshaw had accidentally bumped into a kanwariya, the pilgrim was unharmed and the sacred kanwar was not damaged. Despite this, the group of kanwariyas attacked Kumar with sticks and rods and vandalized his e-rickshaw.

Despite police efforts to intervene, the kanwariyas ignored warnings and continued their aggressive behavior. Kumar was later taken to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

The police have filed a case against the unidentified kanwariyas involved in the attack and vandalism. Efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible for the incident.

Hospet: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday alleged large-scale tampering of postal ballots in the Sringeri constituency.

Speaking to the media near the Tungabhadra Dam, he said, “A large-scale crime has taken place in Sringeri. Tampering has been done using officials. More than 200 ballot papers have been tampered with.”

He further alleged that postal ballots were manipulated despite signatures being recorded during counting, calling it a “shame for the country.”

“They have tampered with the votes of our MLAs. Similar tampering has taken place in Jayanagar too. This is an insult to democracy. There should be a thorough investigation into this. The law will take its course. We will go to court,” he said.
