'Kursi Bachao Budget': Rahul Gandhi slams govt over Union Budget
New Delhi (PTI): Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday dubbed the Union Budget a "kursi bachao budget" and claimed it makes "hollow promises" to BJP allies at the cost of other states.
The former Congress chief also claimed that the budget was "copy and paste" job of the Congress manifesto for 2024 polls and previous budgets.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for 2024-25, her seventh straight presentation, surpassing the record of former prime minister Morarji Desai. This is the first budget in Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's third term in office.
In a post on X, Gandhi said, " 'Kursi Bachao' Budget. Appease Allies: Hollow promises to them at the cost of other states. Appease Cronies: Benefits to AA with no relief for the common Indian. Copy and Paste: Congress manifesto and previous budgets."
The Congress also slammed the Union Budget as being "more focused on posturing than action" and claimed that the "copy-paste government" has borrowed heavily from the party's manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls.
The opposition party in its post claimed that the government had "tacitly" admitted that "mass unemployment is a national crisis", and said the budget has "political compulsions written all over it".

Should I grant bail to Sanjay Roy?: Court criticises CBI over delay in Kolkata doctor's rape-murder
Kolkata: A Sealdah court expressed strong displeasure on Friday after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to present its lawyer on time during the bail hearing of Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The CBI lawyer arrived 50 minutes late, leading to Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pamela Gupta to question the agency's commitment. "Should I grant bail to Sanjay Roy?" she asked, highlighting the seriousness of the case and the need for prompt action. Despite the delay, the court rejected Roy's bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody until September 20.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) criticised the CBI's actions, with MP Saket Gokhale alleging that the agency was attempting to secure Roy's release on bail. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is set to resume its hearing on the case on September 9.
The trainee doctor's body, bearing severe injury marks, was discovered in the hospital's seminar hall on August 9. Following the Calcutta High Court's order, the CBI took over the investigation from Kolkata Police on August 14.
