Jaipur: Rajasthan Police have arrested members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang accused of plotting terror attacks in Delhi and Gwalior on Independence Day. The arrests follow their alleged role in a grenade blast outside a liquor shop in Nawanshahr, Punjab, on July 7.

Additional Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Dinesh MN said three men — Jitendra Chaudhary of Tonk, Sanjay from Hanumangarh, and Sonu alias Kali from Kapurthala, Punjab — along with three minors were taken into custody from Jaipur and Tonk districts on August 10. They were later handed over to the Special Operations Cell of the Punjab Police in Amritsar.

According to police, the Nawanshahr blast was carried out to “spread terror and extort money.” A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, including provisions for abetment, criminal conspiracy, and relevant sections of the Arms Act.

ADG Dinesh MN said the suspects were receiving instructions from Zeeshan Akhtar, a Canada-based handler linked to the Bishnoi gang, who has also claimed responsibility for the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai. Police allege Akhtar is connected to Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti, Babbar Khalsa International member Manu Agwan, and gangster Gopi Nawanshahria in a nationwide criminal network.

Investigators say the accused were recruited through Instagram and other online apps, and that Akhtar had supplied them with grenades for the Nawanshahr blast while directing them to plan further attacks in Delhi and Gwalior on August 15. Akhtar was reportedly detained in Canada in June, but his current status remains unclear.
