New Delhi: The Supreme Court in its recent order disposed of a petition by an advocate challenging a Gauhati High Court judgment expelling him from Court for wearing denim trousers for work, reminding the petitioner that every advocate was required to appear before Court in proper attire as mandated by the Rules.

Aggrieved by the Gauhati High Court judgment, followed by a direction to police personnel to remove the advocate from court premises, the petitioner approached the apex court. He also argued that the High Court had no authority to get the police to ‘de-court’ him.

The apex court bench of Justices Bela Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma, which heard the petition, stated that, as the lawyer had not only apologized to the court but also was neither discourteous nor unruly, the Gauhati High Court could have closed the matter and asked the advocate to leave rather than getting the police to remove him from court premises. The bench, therefore, asked for the High Court order directing the police to de-court the advocate to be expunged.

The bench closed the matter with a reminder to the advocate that it was ‘needless to say that every advocate is expected to come to the Court in proper attire as per the Rules and behave in the Court’.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.

Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
