Left bags all four posts in JNUSU elections, dashes ABVP hopes in major turnaround
New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events during the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) election, the Left alliance staged a remarkable comeback after initially lagging behind the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), securing victory in all four posts.
Initially, the ABVP appeared to be in a favorable position, poised for a potential sweep in the election. However, as the vote counting progressed, the Left gradually gained momentum, ultimately clinching victory in all four key positions.
The election, which marked the resumption of student polls after a hiatus of four years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, witnessed a fierce contest between the United Left alliance and the ABVP.
In the keenly contested presidential race, the Left candidate, Dhananjay, emerged victorious with 3,100 votes, surpassing the ABVP’s Umesh Chandra Ajmeera, who secured 2,118 votes.

Man arrested for for raping mute woman in Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur (PTI): One person was arrested on the charge of raping a 30-year-old woman with speech impairment in Jamshedpur, a police officer said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the Azadnagar police station area of the city, and a case in this regard was registered based on the statement of the victim's brother on Monday.
The victim had gone to fetch water from the premises of a company on Monday evening. When she did not return even after a considerable time, family members went out in search of her and caught the accused red-handed, police said.

The accused was a caretaker of the company.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Patamda) Bachandeo Kujjur said due to scarcity of water in the area, the victim used to fetch water from the premises of the company.
