Malpe, Dec 17: A skirmish between two labourers ended up in the murder of one in a fishing boat on December 16 at Baputhota Dakke in Malpe Harbour. The victim has been identified as Preetham (24) of Orissa. However, accused Maruti (40) from Koppal is escaped. Both of them were working as labourers at a boat belonging to Dattaraj of Katapadi Kote village.
On December 10, both of them, along with others, have ventured into the sea from Malpe harbour in the boat for fishing and returned to the port on December 16. After unloading the fish, the boat was anchored at Baputhota Dakke. When others have gone home, Preetham and Maruti were sleeping in the boat, it is said.
On December 17 at 5.45am, Dattaraj had brought the boat to the shore to repair it. Noticing the blood stains in the boat, Dattaraj peeped into the engine room where he found the body of Preetham. It is suspected that in an inebriated condition, both of them might have engaged in a clash and Maruti might have attacked Preetham with lethal weapons and locked him inside the engine room and killed. Accused Maruti is absconding and police have been searching for him. A case was registered at Malpe police station.
