Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a strongly worded open letter on Saturday, accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of instigating communal violence in the state.

"RSS and BJP are the ones who are instigating communal violence in West Bengal. People of the state should be extremely careful not to get trapped in their provocations," Banerjee wrote, urging the public to maintain unity and not fall prey to what she termed as divisive tactics.

She alleged that the BJP and its affiliates, including the RSS, had become "very aggressive" in the state and were using a recent incident to stoke communal unrest for electoral gains.

“They want to incite riots, which can affect everyone,” she said, adding, “We love all. We want to stay together. We condemn riots. We are against riots. They want to divide us for narrow electoral politics.”

The Chief Minister called for calm and cooperation between communities, stressing the importance of maintaining communal harmony. She said the state government is taking strict action to maintain law and order.

“To save human lives and dignity, and to uphold law and order, we have taken strong steps. Two police officers-in-charge have been removed. Investigations are ongoing and further action will follow,” Banerjee stated.

She reiterated her appeal to the public to avoid falling into traps of provocation and said that those responsible for violence would be dealt with firmly.

“The majority and minority communities must work together and take care of each other. We must avoid mutual mistrust and distrust,” she added.

Mangaluru: Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao, commenting on Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah for his recent controversial statement on Col Sofiya Qureshi, said that the BJP was stooping to very low moral levels by insulting officers of the Indian Army.

Addressing reports at the Circuit House on Friday, Rao pointed out that the Madhya Pradesh High Court, expressing distrust in the state government regarding filing an FIR against Shah, had stated that it would take charge of the matter.

Stating that the BJP only focuses on communalizing the matter, with many party workers also insulting the Foreign Secretary’s daughter, the minister challenged the BJP workers to troll Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had decided on calling a ceasefire with Pakistan. The power to take the decision lies with the PM, Rao said, and also asked people to understand matters clearly rather than politicizing them.

He further criticized the PM’s silence regarding Pakistan’s fake news that it had destroyed Indian jets although all of India had unitedly stood by the Central government as it went ahead to fight against the Pahalgam terrorists.

The minister stated that people had been seeking explanations for the declaration of the ceasefire by US President Donald Trump. Opining that PM Modi greatly feared the US President, he added that while the PM criticizes Turkey boldly, he also prefers silence on China supplying weapons to Pakistan.

Rao said that the PM should call an all-party meeting and answer questions. He pointed out that the Congress leaders had demanded a special Parliamentary session to discuss the Pahalgam issue.

In response to a question on President Trump asking Apple to stop expanding production in India, the minister expressed optimism regarding the PM.
