Chennai: A 26-year-old man was arrested here for allegedly posting morphed private pictures of his live-in partner on various social media platforms, police said on Wednesday.

Sanjay Kumar was in a live-in relationship with his 24-year-old girlfriend for sometime now. The two hail from Vellore in Tamil Nadu and knew each other since class 10. The couple was planning to get married, they said.

The man derived 'pleasure' from reading comments posted below the uploaded pictures of his girlfriend, they added.

The woman along with Sanjay Kumar filed a complaint with police alleging someone had uploaded her private pictures on some social media platforms such as Telegram and Instagram.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the India Penal Code and other relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, a senior police officer said.

As part of the probe, the investigators approached the social media platforms concerned to take down those photos and also sought details of the alleged account holder through whose handle they were uploaded online.

During investigation, it turned out that it was in fact her boyfriend who had posted them, he said.

The accused was then arrested and he confessed to the crime during interrogation.

According to police, the accused had also posted morphed pictures of his friends and relatives on social media platforms.

Chennai (PTI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday said that the efforts made by his party cadres during the Assembly elections would be rewarded on May 4.

The counting of votes for the Assembly elections held on April 23 will be taken up on May 4.

"We are set to reap the rewards of the hard work put in by our party cadres on the coming fourth (May 4 counting day). There is absolutely no change in this and not even the slightest deviation," Stalin said at a May Day event here.

"There is no need for anyone to assume that I am speaking merely on the basis of exit polls," he added.

Stalin, who is also DMK chief, said that "good news" would come for those eagerly waiting for the election results.

Stating that the DMK governance is based on philosophy and principles, Stalin said, "This will continue."

He recalled the pivotal role of the then Chief Minister C N Annadurai, who first declared May Day as a government holiday, and subsequently, late CM M Karunanidhi, who was instrumental in extending it as a paid holiday across the nation.

"Responding to the request of Kalaingnar (Karunanidhi), the then Prime Minister V P Singh accepted the plea and declared it (May 1) a paid government holiday not merely for Tamil Nadu, but for the entire nation," Stalin said.
