Mandya: The controversial ‘Urigowdaru Mattu Dodda Nanjegowdara Mahadwara’, put up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mandya on Sunday, was taken off on Saturday night, following severe criticism.
The entrance named after Urigowda and Nanjegowda has been replaced by ‘Shri Shri Shri Balagangadharanath Swamiji Mahadwara’, for the event.
Modi will inaugurate the Rs 16,000-crore Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway project in Mandya on Sunday. He will also hold a road show on the occasion.
The ‘mahadwara’ installed for the event was severely criticized on social media, with Twitter users calling it cheap, vote bank tactics of the BJP in a district where Muslims and people of the Gowda community live in harmony. Some had alleged that the BJP and the RSS were ‘desperate’ to convert into reality a story of Urigowda and Nanjegowda, who were merely fictional characters created by the RSS a few years ago.
Following also an intense demand that the flexes be removed immediately and the name of the ‘mahadwara’ also be changed, the entrance was replaced overnight before the inaugural of the expressway project.
