New Delhi: AAP leader Manish Sisodia, contesting the Delhi Assembly elections from the Jangpura constituency, has alleged that the BJP offered him the Chief Minister's position while he was in Tihar Jail. Sisodia claimed the offer was made in exchange for switching allegiance to the BJP.

"Join the BJP, and we will break up AAP MLAs to make you Chief Minister," Sisodia alleged during an interview with India Today TV. He added that the BJP threatened to prolong his imprisonment if he refused the offer.

The former Deputy Chief Minister, arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case in 2023, spent nearly 17 months in custody before being granted bail by the Supreme Court in August 2024.

Sisodia further accused the BJP of targeting opposition leaders to weaken rival parties. "The BJP has set up a mechanism to break opposition parties. Those who resist are sent to jail," he claimed, alleging that the party uses threats and political manipulation as tools to consolidate power.

He also criticised the BJP's governance, stating, "They don't care about schools, hospitals, water, or electricity. If they did, states ruled by them for decades would have seen significant development in these areas. Instead, when we started our work in Delhi, providing free electricity and water, they saw it as a threat to their narrative."

The BJP has consistently denied allegations of misusing probe agencies to target opposition leaders, asserting that actions are taken only against those involved in corrupt practices.

Tezpur (Assam), Jan 24 (PTI): A student in Assam's Sonitpur district died allegedly after being physically assaulted by his teacher, who has been arrested, a police officer said on Friday.

The incident happened on Wednesday in a private English medium school in Sirajuli town of the district with the victim succumbing the next day, Superintendent of Police (SP) Barun Purkayastha said.

He said the class 7 student, Aman Kumar, was involved in a fight with a classmate, following which the teacher punished both of them.

"Aman fell sick after returning home and was admitted to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, where he breathed his last yesterday," Purkayastha said.

"We have arrested the teacher on the basis of the complaint filed by the parents. Investigation is on into the matter," he added.

Students of the school alleged that the teacher had hit Aman on his chest and other parts of the body.

Meanwhile, local people staged protests and blocked National Highway 15 for some time after Aman’s body was taken home on Friday.

They demanded stringent punishment for the teacher.
