Ghaziabad: A 23-year-old scrap dealer was arrested for allegedly assaulting and raping a 16-year-old girl on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.

According to reports, while the girl's parents were out, the accused forcibly entered their home on Wednesday evening, dragged her by the hair, and compelled her to inhale from a handkerchief soaked in a sedative. According to a complaint filed by the girl's father, the accused also hit the girl's brother, who was present at the house and attempted to intervene.

"My children were sleeping when the accused barged into the house. He dragged my daughter out of the room by the hair, and repeatedly kicked and slapped her. When my son tried to intervene, he beat him up too. He made my daughter sniff some sedative by gagging her with a handkerchief," the girl's father, who drives an e-rickshaw, said, as quoted by Times of India.
The girl later regained consciousness in the kitchen, experiencing severe pain in her lower abdomen.

On Thursday, a local mob vandalised the accused's shop and set his e-rickshaw on fire. Additionally, a group of women organised a protest near the Suryanagar police outpost, demanding the death penalty for the accused.

Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra stated that the accused has been arrested. He added that efforts are underway to identify individuals responsible for disrupting peace in the area. Additionally, he asserted that strict action will be taken against those who spread false rumours about gang rape to incite further unrest.

New Delhi, Sep 14: The Delhi High Court has sought response of the city government and Delhi Waqf Board on a plea accusing the board of being silent on alleged alienation and illegal construction at a graveyard on Idgah Road.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela issues notice to the Delhi government, Delhi Waqf Board, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Police on the petition.

The court asked the authorities to file their replies within four weeks and listed the matter for further hearing on November 11.

It also clarified that any construction carried out at the property shall be subject to the further orders of the court and directed that status quo shall be maintained with regard to the title.

Petitioner Mohammad Mazhar Ahmed submitted that qabristan Ahata Badruddin, situated at Idgah Road here, is a notified waqf property.

The petitioner, represented through advocate M Sufian Siddiqui, claimed that the property has been subject to alienation by way of fraudulent transactions which have resulted in unauthorised construction on it and the graves on the premises being desecrated.

He submitted that the alienation and consequent illegal construction is violative of certain provisions of the Waqf Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

He further said the provision of the Waqf Act completely prohibits any form of alienation of a waqf property and therefore the silence on part of the respondents regarding the alienation is not justified.
