Raiganj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "baptized in politics through violence and riots", West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Tuesday, claiming that Adolf Hitler would have committed suicide if he witnessed Modi's activities.

Addressing a rally here, Banerjee also said that the grand old party has failed to put up a strong fight against the BJP, leading to the growth of the saffron party.

"Modi has been baptized in politics through riots and mass killings. He is the king of fascists. Had Adolf Hitler been alive, he would have committed suicide seeing Modi's activities," she said.

The CM also contended that the Congress will not be able to form a government of its own.

"It is because the Congress failed to put up a credible fight against the BJP, the saffron party grew from strength to strength.

"The Rahul Gandhi-led party will have to seek help from others if it wants to form government at the Centre," Banerjee stated.

In every state, alliances have been stitched to oust Modi, she claimed.

"Once Modi is voted out of power, all of us will work towards building a new India," the CM said, adding that TMC has "never compromised in its fight against communalism".

Bengaluru (PTI): Police on Tuesday said they seized counterfeit watches and spare parts of leading brands worth around Rs 25 lakh that were being sold as genuine.

The operation was carried out by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Central Crime Branch (CCB), during which five persons were arrested.

“Five shops were raided where fake watches and spare parts of prominent brands were being sold as genuine. A total of 670 watches and spare parts of 414 watches were seized. The value is about Rs 25 lakh,” police said in a release.

The action followed a complaint filed by an authorised representative of one of the brands with the CCB’s Economic Offences Wing.

According to the complaint, counterfeit watches and spare parts of reputed companies were being sold as genuine in five shops located in Chickpet, Sultanpalya Main Road, Ganganagar and Dinnur Main Road in the city.

Police said raids were conducted on March 18 and 20, during which the watches and spare parts were seized.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said efforts are underway to trace the source of manufacture of the counterfeit products.

“Those involved in manufacturing will also be identified, raided and arrested,” he added.
