New Delhi: Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair has raised concerns over the lack of legal action against Yati Narasinghanand, a controversial priest from Uttar Pradesh, known for his hate speeches targeting Muslims and Islam. Zubair pointed out that despite multiple FIRs lodged against him over the past four years, authorities have not taken any significant steps.
In a series of posts on X, Zubair highlighted Narasinghanand's recent inflammatory statement, where he urged people to burn effigies of Prophet Mohammed during Dussehra celebrations. “If you have to burn effigies on every Dussehra, then burn the effigies of Mohammad,” the priest reportedly said. According to Zubair, this is just the latest in a series of derogatory comments made by Narasinghanand that have gone unchecked.
There are hundreds of derogatory and hateful videos from public forums of Yati Narasinghanand targeting Muslims, Islam and Prophet Mohammed. He has been doing this for the past 4 years. You'll hardly see any legal action taken by Police. The max they do is, file an FIR under weak… https://t.co/VaDo8sKPdQ

Zubair noted that while FIRs have been registered against Narasinghanand for his remarks, including those targeting BJP women politicians, the police have only filed weak charges, failing to take any serious action. He tagged the Uttar Pradesh Police and Ghaziabad Police, questioning why such speeches continue without facing stringent legal consequences.
In another post, Zubair addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and the state police, urging immediate action. “Hello @narendramodi @PMOIndia @rashtrapatibhvn, @myogiadityanath @myogioffice @Uppolice @dgpup. Act now against this hate! Why has the state given this self-proclaimed Hindu priest a free run to target the Muslim community and Prophet Mohammed?” Zubair asked, adding that Narasinghanand has been regularly making provocative speeches.

He further questioned what the government stands to gain by not taking action against the priest and tagged prominent opposition leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in his posts.
In a separate post directed at Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Zubair sought clarity on whether there will be any legal action against hate mongers who, in the guise of Hindu priests, have been abusing Muslims and Prophet Mohammed for years. He emphasised the need for urgent intervention, tagging Rijiju and the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Lucknow (PTI): The Uttar Pradesh government will make protesters involved in the Sambhal violence pay for damage to public property while posters of "stone pelters" will be displayed at public places, an official said on Wednesday.
Four people died and scores, including police personnel, were injured in Sambhal on Sunday after a confrontation erupted over a court-ordered survey of the city's Shahi Jama Masjid in Kot Garvi area, following a petition claiming that a Harihar temple once stood at the site.
"The UP government is adopting a firm stance against the individuals involved in the Sambhal violence. Posters of the stone pelters and miscreants will be displayed publicly, and recovery of damages will be sought. A reward may also be announced for information leading to their arrest," an official spokesperson said.
In a similar initiative, the government had previously put up posters of individuals linked to vandalism during the anti-CAA protests in 2020. These posters were displayed across several locations, including the state capital, but were later removed following a court order.
The violence in Sambhal erupted on Sunday when a large crowd gathered near a mosque and began chanting slogans as a survey team resumed its work. The situation escalated when the protesters clashed with security personnel, set vehicles on fire, and pelted stones.
So far, police have arrested 25 individuals and registered seven FIRs, which include charges against Zia-ur-Rehman Barq, the Samajwadi Party MP from Sambhal, Sohail Iqbal, son of the party's local MLA Iqbal Mehmood, and over 2,750 unidentified suspects.
A magisterial probe is underway, and Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi stated on Monday that the situation was now under control. He assured that "strict action will be taken against those responsible for the unrest."
