New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament began today (July 21) amid charged political temperatures and a clear agenda of confrontation from the Opposition. With 21 sittings scheduled over 32 days, the session, expected to continue till August 21, is likely to witness intense legislative debates, policy confrontations, and high-decibel protests across both Houses.

The Opposition INDIA bloc has united to take on the Narendra Modi-led NDA government on a range of controversial issues.

Two key flashpoints have already emerged:

1. Trump's ceasefire remarks: U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that he personally mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan earlier this year. His claims have stirred political unrest, with the Opposition demanding that Prime Minister Modi clarify India’s diplomatic dealings and national security policy in Parliament.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had termed the statement “deeply embarrassing for India's sovereignty,” and had asked whether India's foreign policy was being outsourced. Other INDIA bloc leaders, including TMC’s Derek O'Brien and DMK’s Kanimozhi, had called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the matter.

2. Bihar electoral roll revision controversy: The Opposition has also raised alarms over the ongoing voter list revisions in Bihar, accusing the Election Commission of selectively deleting names from minority and Dalit communities under pressure from the ruling BJP.

Bengaluru: The Congress high command has continued disciplinary action following allegations of anti-party activities after the by-elections to the Davangere South and Bagalkot Assembly constituencies.

The All India Youth Congress Committee has taken action against four district presidents are Syed Afrid Pasha (Kolar), Ashok B. Nayak (Vijayanagar), Nikhil Raj (Tumakuru), and Syed Abrar (Mysuru City).

The order states that the leaders were found to be inactive in party activities and had failed to discharge their responsibilities effectively. They have been temporarily relieved of their duties.

Earlier, MLC Abdul Jabbar was suspended from primary membership over alleged anti-party activities during the Davangere South by-election, while senior leader and MLC Naseer Ahmed was relieved of his role as the Chief Minister’s political secretary.

The latest action has drawn reactions from some community leaders and party members, with concerns raised over the leadership’s decisions.
