North Darfur: More than 480 civilians have been killed in Sudan’s North Darfur region over the past two weeks, with some attacks reportedly driven by ethnic motivations, according to the United Nations.

The UN human rights office confirmed that at least 481 civilians have been killed in North Darfur since April 10, noting that “the actual number is likely much higher.”

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk described the situation as unimaginable and unacceptable. "The suffering of the Sudanese people is hard to imagine, harder to comprehend and simply impossible to accept," Turk said in a statement.

The UN also reported widespread incidents of sexual violence, including assaults against young boys and girls, which it described as “horrifying.”

Furthermore, the UN highlighted that dozens have reportedly died from lack of food, water, and medical care, either while detained in facilities operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) or while fleeing violence on foot under harsh conditions.

However, despite the deepening crisis, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) recently warned that it may be forced to scale back its food support efforts within weeks due to severe funding shortages.
