Sehore, Mar 15: A statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was allegedly damaged by some unidentified persons at a village in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Muskara village in the district on the intervening nights of Monday and Tuesday, an official said.
Following protests by Dalit organisations and a complaint lodged by villagers, a case was registered against unidentified persons at Mandi police station, he said.
The statue of Dr Ambedkar in Muskura village was found damaged on Tuesday morning, Mandi police station in-charge Hari Singh Parmar said.
It is possible that someone damaged the statue in an inebriated state, he said, adding that the place is frequented by people from the nearby villages.
According to locals, a statue of Dr Ambedkar was similarly damaged in the village two years ago as well.
Taking to Twitter, state Congress president Kamal Nath said that the incident had taken place in Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's home district Sehore and a similar incident had taken place in the village earlier as well. I demand that the government take strict action against those involved and take all possible measures to ensure that such incidents will not recur, he tweeted.
