Dhar/Barwani (MP), Nov 24: A 23-year-old woman constable was allegedly shot by a man over her refusal to marry him in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district on Tuesday, police said.

Both the victim and the accused, who later shot himself in the chest, are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Barwani, an official said.

The incident took place near Gadakpur Chokdi in Dhar, where Karan Thakur (26) shot at the constable, who was heading towards Barwani after distributing some wedding invitations, the official said.

The accused intercepted the victim's car, fired at her and then shot himself in the chest, he said.

The constable, who is posted in Rajgarh district, sustained a bullet injury in her neck and will be operated on, Khargone's deputy inspector general (DIG) Tilak Singh said.

The constable has said that the accused was angry with her as she had refused to marry him, the DIG said.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Dhar Devendra Patidar said a case under relevant provisions of the IPC and Arms Act was registered against the accused.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.

Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
