BEST bus driver falls unconscious while driving; accident averted as conductor applies hand brake
Mumbai (PTI): The driver of a civic-run BEST bus fell unconscious at the wheel in Malad in the northern part of the metropolis and an accident was averted after the conductor managed to apply the hand brake and bring the vehicle with 35 passengers to a halt.
A Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking official said the incident took place Late Saturday night when the bus was in Pushpa Park area.
"The driver fell unconscious while the vehicle was moving. Conductor Lahanu Gopal Nagre immediately applied the hand brake and halted the bus. His alertness and quick handling of the situation averted an accident and ensured 35 passengers were not harmed," the official informed.
The condition of the driver is stable, he added.

ACP arrested in Mumbai for obscene act in front of nine-year-old girl; sent to judicial custody
Mumbai: An assistant commissioner of police was arrested by Worli Police in Central Mumbai under charge of flashing his private parts before a nine-year-old girl.
The arrested officer is reportedly under judicial custody, at present, according to a report by The Times of India.
The incident occurred in a garden on April 23, a police officer has said, adding that they arrested the ACP soon after the complaint was filed. So far, only one party has filed a complaint against the senior officer, the source has informed.
The senior officer has been charged with molestation and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police officer said.
Further investigation of the case is underway.
