Thiruvananthapuram:In a major relief to Kerala, which is expecting over 350 expatriates to arrive by special flights later Thursday, the health department said no fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the state for the second consecutive day.

Health Minister K K Shailaja said the state government has also removed 56 areas from the hotspot category and test reports of five COVID-19 patients were reported negative in the state, taking the total number of those cured to 474.

"Three people from Kannur, two from Kasaragod were cured onThursday.As of now, only 25 people are under treatment in the state," the minister said in a release.

As per the latest medical bulletin, 16,693 are under observation in the state and 310 are in isolation wards of various hospitals.

"Till now, 35,171 samples have been sent for testing.There are no new hotspots in the state. Meanwhile, we have removed 56 areas from the hotspot category.As of now there are 33 hotspots in the state," the minister said.

On Wednesday also, no new cases of COVID-19 were reported from the state. No new cases were reported in the state on May 1, 3 and 4also.

Meanwhile, police said all necessary arrangements have been made at airports to facilitate the arrival and transfer of expatriates who will start arriving from tonight.

Patna (PTI): The body of a Bihar Police personnel was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in his barracks here, a senior officer said on Sunday.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma said a havildar with Bihar State Armed Police-1, popularly known as "Gorkha battalion", died allegedly by suicide as he had been suffering from some ailment.

The deceased left behind "two suicide notes", one in Hindi and the other in his native language Nepali.

"From the suicide notes, it appears that Navraj Sunar, the deceased havildar, had been suffering from some ailment which had caused him much mental anguish and may have driven him to take the extreme step," the SSP said.

The body was being sent to the native village of the deceased in Nepal after a post-mortem examination, while further investigations were on, with forensic experts inspecting the site of the incident.
