Balasore: With horrifying reports of deaths being reported at the accident site of the Train derailment involving Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel express and Yeshwantpur Howrah express, a passenger recounts horrific moments inside the train.

A passenger who reportedly traveled on one of the trains involved in the accident spoke to news agency ANI. In the video the feared passenger is seen saying “I was sleeping, and when the train overturned, as many from the unreserved coaches came to the reserved coaches there was too much rush and after the coach overturned, nearly 10-15 people fell over me and I was underneath the pile of other passengers. My hand got hurt and suffered other injuries.”

When asked about how many were dead the eyewitness said “Upon exiting the coach, I witnessed the gruesome scene of severed body parts. Some individuals had lost their legs, while others had their hands severed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state and union governments have rushed their NDRF, ODRF, Fire Service teams to the spot and the rescue operations are underway.

As per sources to the news agency ANI, the toll of the tragedy includes nearly 900 injuries and 238 deaths. Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have assured the public that all necessary arrangements will be made to address the issue. Both the officials are set to visit the accident site tomorrow to assess the situation firsthand.

Sakleshpura (PTI): Two people of a family died and five others were injured in a collision involving an SUV and a container lorry in Shiradi Ghat of Dakshina Kannada district early on Tuesday, police said.

The deceased hailed from Bondala village near Panemangalore in Mangaluru taluk.

According to police, the mishap occurred near the Kempuholay bridge of Shiradi Ghat when the family was travelling to Mangaluru after attending a relative's wedding banquet in Bengaluru.

Those who sustained serious injuries were admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.

A case was registered and the driver of the truck was taken into custody for further investigation, they said.
