New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the report from the high-level committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind on the proposal for 'One Nation, One Election.'

The committee's recommendations include holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies, followed by synchronised local body polls within 100 days.

The report was submitted earlier this year and its presentation before the Cabinet was part of the law ministry’s 100-day agenda. The committee has also suggested forming an 'Implementation Group' to oversee the execution of these recommendations.

Additionally, the panel has proposed 18 constitutional amendments, some of which may require ratification by state Assemblies. Notably, changes related to a unified electoral roll and voter ID card would need the support of at least half of the states.
