Patna: Ahead of the vote counting for the Lok Sabha elections, Pappu Yadav, an independent candidate from Bihar's Purnia constituency, issued a warning about potential unrest if the electoral process is compromised. Yadav, a prominent political figure in Bihar, emphasized the gravity of ensuring a transparent vote count.

In a statement made on the eve of the counting, Yadav called on his supporters to be prepared for any outcome. "If democracy is murdered, there will be a Mahabharata war," he declared, urging every worker to come prepared to sacrifice themselves for the cause of democracy. "To save democracy in Bihar and Purnia, every worker will have to come tomorrow prepared to die," he stated emphatically.

He further appealed to the candidates and workers of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to fully cooperate and ensure that the vote counting process remains transparent. "Each of our workers should come to Bihar and Purnia prepared to die. There will be a shroud on every forehead. All the candidates and workers of the INDIA alliance should save democracy," Yadav asserted. "If democracy is murdered forcefully, there will be a Mahabharata war."

Pappu Yadav, whose real name is Rajesh Ranjan, is one of Bihar's most influential political figures. He has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) five times, beginning his tenure in 1991. Yadav subsequently won parliamentary seats in 1996, 1999, and 2014. He was also recognized as the best-performing MP in 2015.

Belagavi: Speaker U.T. Khader on Friday warned that members who disrupt Assembly proceedings by talking in their seats during debates will be made to sit in the House for an entire day as a disciplinary measure.

The warning came after the Question Hour, when Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad was permitted to initiate a discussion on the development of North Karnataka.

At this point, expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal objected, stating that he had been seeking a debate for the past three days but had not been given an opportunity.

Responding to the objection, Speaker Khader said Bellad had already been granted permission and assured Yatnal that he would be allowed to speak at the next opportunity. He noted that even as a serious discussion was underway, several MLAs were speaking among themselves with their microphones on, disrupting the proceedings.

Expressing displeasure over the conduct of members, Khader likened the situation to football, where players receive red, yellow, or white cards for violations. Similarly, he said, the Assembly issues warning cards to members who disturb the House. If they fail to correct themselves despite repeated warnings, they would be required to remain seated in the Assembly hall for a full day as punishment, he stated.
