Jaipur: Rajasthan BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya confronted a Muslim participant during a teachers’ felicitation programme in Jaipur after noticing that he did not join others in chanting “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”

The incident, which took place earlier this month at a hotel in Vaishali Nagar under the banner of the Hindustan Book of Records, came to light after a video clip circulated on social media on Monday. Around 100 teachers and school officials from across the country attended the function.

While leading the chants from the stage, Acharya questioned the man, later identified as Mohammad Asif from Maharashtra, for not participating. Asif replied that he had no objection to chanting, but Acharya continued pressing him, accusing him of lacking patriotism.

“Kuchh log desh ka khate hain, desh mein rahte hain, par desh ke khilaf bolte hain. Yah inki mansikta hai,” Acharya said, alleging disloyalty despite Asif’s repeated clarifications.

The exchange drew objections from some attendees. One participant countered, “We bow down to this land five times a day and are buried in this land. How can you say we do not respect it? Why unnecessarily create communal tension in the country?”

The organisers intervened to calm the situation, and the programme concluded shortly after.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Acharya confirmed the incident, saying he only asked why some participants avoided chanting slogans in praise of the country.
