Bengaluru: Popular Front of India (PFI) in Saturday issued a press release, welcoming the Supreme Court monitored mediation process on Ayodhya dispute case. The organisation has also expressed reservation on the inclusion of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in the three member panel appointed by the Supreme Court.

The press release terms the spiritual leader Ravi Shankar as ‘Controversial Figure’ and ‘Open campaigner of for construction of Ram Mandir on the disputed site’ while it also suggest that it would have been more meaningful had the CJI himself would head the panel instead of Retd. Judge of Apex Court.

“He (Ravi Shankar) was repeatedly demanding Muslims to give up their claim of Babri Masjid and accept the Masjid outside Ayodhya. He is reported to have once threatened Muslims that if they don’t give up their claim on Ayodhya India will become Syria. On another occasion he told the media that if court rules against temple, there would be bloodshed and the government might not be able to implement the court order” the press release added.

“It is heartbreaking to note that a controversial person with such a background of openly instigating violence is being deputed to play the role of mediator” it further added

The organization further suggested the apex court to amend its order and ask the panel to begin mediation process only after the Lok Sabha Elections this year as it expressed apprehensions about urgency being sought in the matter to coincide with Lok Sabha elections, as the issue can be used for political gains.

Bengaluru: Vidyaranyapura police have arrested four persons, including a man posing as a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), for allegedly breaking into a house, threatening the occupants, and extorting money while wearing police uniforms.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mallikarjuna, Pramod, Vinay, and Hrithik.

Police said the accused had hatched a plan to pose as police personnel, conduct fake raids, and extort money from residents by intimidation.

According to the police, Mallikarjuna had failed the PSI examination twice and later falsely projected himself as a PSI. He allegedly conducted photo shoots in his hometown, Siraguppa, wearing a police uniform, baton, cap, and shoes, claiming to be serving as a PSI in Bengaluru.

On December 7, the four accused allegedly went to the house of Naveen in the Vidyaranyapura limits, threatened him with a stick and an iron rod, and claimed they had information that he was selling ganja. Under the pretext of searching, they allegedly extorted ₹87,000 through bank transfer, ₹53,000 in cash kept in the house, and ₹2,000 from his wallet.

Following Naveen’s complaint, Vidyaranyapura police registered a case and launched an operation, leading to the arrest of all four accused. Police have seized ₹45,000 in cash and the car used to commit the crime.
Further investigation is underway.
