New Delhi: Senior advocate and activist, Prashant Bhushan on Thursday asserted that the reputation of the Supreme Court of India has stooped the lowest in the history and it has not been as low even during the emergency.
Bhushan took to his Twitter account on Thursday and added that he has never seen the Supreme Court so berated and reviled by retired judges, lawyers, litigants, and citizens alike. He further added that the judges of the SC have brought this upon themselves.
“I have observed the SC for more than 40 years. I have never seen the SC so berated & reviled by retired judges, lawyers, litigants and citizens alike. It can safely be said that the SCs reputation was not as low even during the emergency. Judges have brought this upon themselves” Bhushan wrote in the tweet.
He was referring to Justice Shah’s statement on Supreme Court and liberty wherein he had added that the SC no longer stands as the chief protector of freedoms.
“The govt has done so much damage to personal liberty, but the courts, especially the SC, have watched this indiscriminate and violent trampling of dissent like mute spectators” Justice Shah had said.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.
The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).
"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.
The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.
They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.
Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
