Sidhi (PTI): A pregnant woman's demand for a motorable access road to her village in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district has invited a response from a BJP MP, who asked about her due date to shift her to a hospital.
Leela Sahu had taken to social media to demand an access road for her village while alleging that the local MP had failed to act on his year-old assurance.
She has now vowed to travel to Delhi after delivering her baby and meet Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari over her grievance.
A year ago, Sahu posted reels on social media highlighting the lack of proper access road to Kaddi-Bagaiha village, about 40 km from the district headquarters. She has now become active again, demanding a 10-km road from Khaddikhurd to the Gangari, citing that she and five other expectant mothers in the area may need smooth access to medical facilities.
Talking to reporters on Friday, the 25-year-old said, "I will travel to New Delhi after delivering my baby and petition Union Minister Gadkari, urging him to sanction the road at the earliest."
Sahu said she had launched a campaign on social media a year ago and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following which Sidhi MP Rajesh Mishra assured that the road would be built after the monsoons last year.
However, nothing has been constructed as yet, she alleged, accusing the legislator of failing to honour his commitment.
When contacted, Mishra said, "We have facilities such as ambulances. There is no need to worry. This is the Mohan Yadav government. There is a due date for delivery, and if informed, we can shift her to a hospital a week before. People want to gain popularity on social media by any means. What is the need to bring this to the fore in this manner?"
According to Sahu's acquaintances, she is expecting to deliver her baby in a fortnight.

Mumbai (PTI): Police have arrested a man and seized over 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.54 crore in the illicit market from him in Mumbai, officials said on Friday.
The police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) made the drug seizure in Santacruz in the western suburbs. The operation was conducted by the Kandivali unit of the ANC on Thursday as part of a special crackdown against drug trafficking in the area, they said.
Acting on specific inputs, an ANC team conducted a raid in Santacruz (East) and intercepted a man. During a search, the team recovered 508 grams of high-grade heroin from his possession, an official said.
The seized contraband, a highly addictive, opioid drug derived from morphine, is estimated to be worth Rs 2.54 crore in the international market, he informed.
Following the seizure, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and he was formally placed under arrest in the early hours of Friday.
The police are currently investigating the source of the drug and trying to identify the intended recipients of the consignment, he said.
