Amritsar, Oct 5: A Congress councillor, believed to be close to Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, was Friday "manhandled and slapped" publicly by some unidentified people, police said.
The incident occurred when Ajit Singh Bhatia, the councillor form ward number 30 in the city, was interacting with some people outside his residence in the Golden Avenue locality. He was listing the developmental works he undertook, they said.
A group of unidentified people reached the spot and started manhandling him. They slapped him before fleeing, police said.
The attackers were alleging that no development had happened in the ward since he became councillor. They also made video of the incident, police said.
Ward number 30 falls in the Amritsar East Assembly constituency represented by Sidhu.
