New Delhi: In a move aimed at providing greater clarity to passengers, Indian Railways is working on to release the confirmed status chart of waiting list 24 hours before a train’s departure, instead of the current practice of doing so just four hours prior.
“We have started this pilot project in the Bikaner Division, where charts are being prepared 24 hours before the train departure. The current practice is doing so before 4 hours,” Deccan Herald quoted Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board, as saying.
Kumar emphasised that the trial aims to address the uncertainty faced by passengers with waitlisted tickets. “By knowing 24 hours in advance whether their tickets are confirmed, passengers will have a better opportunity to plan their travel,” he added.
The 24-hour announcement of the reservation chart will also assist passengers coming from long distances to reach the station on time. Additionally, it will provide clarity to those with long waitlists about the likelihood of their tickets being confirmed, DH quoted an official in the railways as saying. This early release will also allow passengers to make alternative travel arrangements if their seats remain unconfirmed.
Currently, Indian Railways releases reservation charts in two stages. The first chart is generated four hours before the train’s scheduled departure, and the final chart is released about 30 minutes before departure.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.
The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).
"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.
The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.
They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.
Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
