The initiative, titled "Silenced Voices, Forgotten Lives," seeks to address the silent storm gathering strength among the 285 million widows globally, with over 115 million grappling with extreme poverty. “These resilient women often find themselves voiceless and powerless, excluded not only from society but also from economic opportunities,” a press statement from the trust stated.
Highlighting the importance of supporting widows and orphans in Islam, the foundation emphasizes the sacred duty embedded in Islamic teachings. Ignoring their plight, it asserts, contradicts the essence of the faith and perpetuates a cycle of poverty, impacting not only the individuals involved but humanity as a whole.
The foundation outlines a multi-faceted approach to address the immediate, medium-term, and long-term needs of widows and orphans. Immediate help includes financial aid, counseling services, and skill development programs. Medium-term solutions involve the establishment of community centers, microfinance initiatives, and educational support. Long-term and preferred solutions include support for re-marriage, foster care, adoption, and legal and social advocacy.
In line with these objectives, the foundation proposes a series of activities and guidelines to kickstart the initiative at a local level. These include thorough research and data collection, data analysis and report preparation, awareness campaign strategy, fundraising and support drives, community workshops and seminars, advocacy for legal frameworks, and specific support for re-marriage.
The Rekindle Foundation emphasizes the role of the community in uplifting widows and orphans, calling for a collective responsibility to alleviate the burdens they carry. The initiative draws inspiration from Islamic teachings, advocating for compassion and support for those in distress, the press statement added.
To initiate the project, the foundation plans to collaborate with local research institutes, academicians, and researchers, with a focus on female researchers to establish trust. The data collected will serve as the foundation for advocacy and awareness campaigns, shedding light on the real issues faced by widows, divorced individuals, and orphans in the community.
The foundation intends to keep the community engaged through monthly discussions, progress monitoring, and collaboration with other organizations working on similar issues. The ultimate goal is to break the silence surrounding widows, amplify their voices, and work towards liberating them from the chains of poverty and despair.
In a call to action, the Rekindle Foundation has invited individuals guided by compassion to join the cause, emphasizing that in empowering widows, a brighter and more humane future is shaped for all. The detailed plan outlines the foundation's plans to making a tangible impact on the lives of widows and orphans, addressing their immediate needs and fostering long-term solutions for a sustainable and empowered future.
The future plans of the trust include:
1. Research and Data Collection: Begin by collaborating with local research institutes, academicians, and research students, with a particular focus on female researchers who can establish trust and rapport with the subjects. These researchers can conduct interviews, surveys, and data collection to gain insights into the real issues faced by widows, divorced individuals, and orphans in our community. This data will be the foundation of our efforts.
2. Data Analysis and Report Preparation: Once the data is collected, work on its analysis to identify key challenges and trends. Collaborate with data analysts or researchers to prepare dependable reports that can provide a clear picture of the issues faced. These reports will serve as the basis for our advocacy and awareness campaigns.
3. Awareness Campaign Strategy: Simultaneously, develop a comprehensive strategy for awareness campaigns. Based on the data collected and the reports prepared design campaigns that highlight the real issues and challenges faced by widows, divorced individuals, and orphans in our community. These campaigns should aim to dispel myths, combat stigma, and garner support.
4. Fundraising and Support Drives: As awareness campaigns gain momentum, organize fundraising, and support drives, and collaborate with other like-minded organizations to address immediate financial needs. Ensure that these drives are well-publicized, and the community is aware of the impact of their contributions.
5. Community Workshops and Seminars: Arrange community workshops and seminars to share the research findings and reports. Invite experts to discuss the challenges faced by widows and orphans and suggest solutions. Encourage open dialogue to raise awareness and promote empathy.
6. Advocacy and Legal Framework: Continue to advocate for the rights of widows and orphans in our community. Use authentic data and research findings to push for legal and social frameworks that protect their rights and provide essential services.
7. Re-Marriage Support: Collaborate with matchmaking websites, marriage bureaus, and counseling services to provide re-marriage support for widows and divorced individuals who wish to remarry. This can include facilitating connections, offering counseling for re-marriage, and promoting the idea of emotional and social stability through re-marriage.
8. Monthly Discussions and Progress Monitoring: Keep our group engaged and informed through regular discussions. Share the progress of the research, awareness campaigns, and any legal advocacy efforts. Identify areas where we can fine-tune our strategies based on the evolving situation.
9. Collaboration and Outreach: Reach out to other community organizations and groups that are working on similar issues. Collaborate on projects and initiatives to maximize our collective impact.
