New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has launched a sharp attack on the United States, accusing it of promoting terrorism and dictatorship, in a marked departure from the admiration some Hindutva groups once expressed for US president Donald Trump, including public prayers in his favour.

In an editorial published in its mouthpiece Organiser, the RSS argued that the American-led unipolar order is weakening, citing trade wars, sanctions, and regime change operations as signs of decline. It also dismissed global institutions such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation as “irrelevant and ineffective.”

The piece alleged that Washington’s policies have fuelled global instability, pointing to ongoing conflicts including the Russia–Ukraine war, the Israel–Hamas war, and Israel–Iran tensions. While contrasting the US with China—accused of pursuing a “debt-trap” strategy and lacking credible mechanisms for long-term stability. The editorial claimed India’s own foreign policy moves, such as Surgical Strikes, Operation Sindoor, and its emphasis on strategic autonomy, reflect a rising national consciousness.

The timing of the criticism has raised eyebrows as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a former RSS pracharak, has maintained public silence on both Trump’s claim of mediating between India and Pakistan and on the steep tariffs imposed on Indian exports, despite opposition demands for him to respond.

The remarks also come amid speculation over strains between the RSS leadership and the BJP under Modi, following RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent statement about stepping aside at the age of 75, a comment widely seen as potentially aimed at the Prime Minister, who will reach the same age this September.
