Bengaluru: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy affiliated to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday issued an order naming the Hall no 16, the Main Lecture Hall of Basic Course after late IPS officer Dr. K Madhukar Shetty.

The order stated the move came as a mark of respect to Madhukar Shetty for his commitment, dedication and also being a role model for the IPS Probationers.

An IPS officer of 1999 batch Karnataka Cadre, Dr. Madhukar Shetty is remembered as a honest, efficient and people friendly officer who took on bigwigs for breaking law without any hesitation.

Shetty worked as ASP Bengaluru Rural district and later as SP of Chamarajanagar and Chikkamagaluru.

Shetty was an integral part of the team that exposed illegal iron ore mining in Bellari, the backyard of powerful mining baron Janardhan Reddy which led to the resignation and arrest of then Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

Dr. Madhukar Shetty, had immense impact on the People and officers he worked with who describe him as incorruptible and straight forward officer.

The move from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel academy comes as a sigh of relief for Madhukar Shetty’s fans as Karnataka government has been reluctant in recognizing the services and goodwill of Dr. Madhukar Shetty among the People of the state.

The reluctant Karnataka government in December last year turned down the Proposal to name Varthur Kodi circle in Whitefield in Bengaluru after Dr. Madhukar Shetty’s name. The Proposal was made by BBMP.

Sources said the proposal was floated by then Whitefield DCP Adbul Ahad and Shetty’s friends. Hagadur ward corporator S Uday Kumar had proposed the renaming to the Palike’s town planning standing committee.
