Satwik-Chirag enter semifinals of China Open
Fuzhou (China): The men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty kept alive India's challenge at the China Open by progressing to the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 750 event here on Friday. The unseeded Indian duo stunned local favourites Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen 21-19 21-15 in a 43-minute quarterfinal clash.
Satwik and Chirag will take on top seeds and world no.1 Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia in the semifinals on Saturday. The world no. 9 Indians had lost to the same pair in the final of the French Open last month.
The first game of Friday's quarterfinal went down to the wire before Satwik and Chirag upped their game to get past the third seed Chinese pair. The second game followed in a similar pattern as both the pairs matched each other stroke for stroke to be tied at 15-15.
But this was when Satwik and Chirag changed gears and capitalised on a few unforced errors from their opponents to pocket six straight points and seal the tie and a place in the last-four round.
This was Satwik and Chirag's third meeting this year with the world no. 3 Chinese duo. The Indians had got the better of the Chinese pair in Thailand Open in April before losing in the second round of the Australian Open in June.
Satwik and Chirag, who had won their maiden Super 500 title at the Thailand Open in August before reaching the French Open final last month, are the lone Indians left in the tournament.

Man sets Tehsildar's vehicle on fire in Chitradurga, detained by police
Chitradurga: A man in Karnataka's Chitradurga district set a tehsildar's vehicle on fire, allegedly in frustration over the police’s refusal to accept his mother’s complaint. The accused, identified as Prithviraj, poured petrol on the vehicle of the Challakere tehsildar outside his office and ignited the flames.
Quick action by the office staff prevented the fire from spreading, as they managed to extinguish the flames before significant damage occurred.
Prithviraj was immediately detained at the scene by the police, and a case was filed against him for damaging government property, vandalising the vehicle, and obstructing official duties. The staff of the tehsildar's office also submitted a petition to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), requesting protection while carrying out their official work.

Sources revealed that Prithviraj, who works for a private company in Bengaluru, had gone missing during a trip in July. His mother, concerned about his disappearance, attempted to file a complaint at the Challakere police station on July 2, but her request was not accepted. Prithviraj eventually reappeared on July 23 and confronted the police about the matter.
In a related incident, on August 14, Prithviraj was also booked for setting fire to a motorbike near Vidhana Soudha.
