SC to hear on May 15 plea against HC order on 'The Kerala Story'
New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court will hear on May 15 a plea against the Kerala High Court order refusing to stay the release of the controversial multilingual film "The Kerala Story".
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal on Tuesday mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha.
When the bench inquired whether the high court has passed an order in the matter, Sibal said it has refused to stay the release of film.
"We will keep it on Monday (May 15)," the bench said.
On May 5, the high court refused to stay the release of the movie and said the trailer does not contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole.
The high court noted the producers' submission that they do not intend to retain an "offending teaser" which contained a statement that "32,000 women" from Kerala were converted and joined a terrorist organisation.
It said the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has examined the movie and found it suitable for public exhibition.
The high court also noted that the producers have published a disclaimer along with the movie which specifically says it is fictionalised and a dramatised version of events and that the film doesn't claim accuracy or factuality of historic events.
"The Kerala Story" starring Adah Sharma was released in cinemas on Friday.

Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of killing husband during honeymoon in Meghalaya, granted bail
Shillong (PTI): A court in Meghalaya on Tuesday granted bail to Indore resident Sonam Raghuvanshi, who allegedly got her husband killed during their honeymoon in the northeastern state in 2025.
Sonam’s husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, went missing on May 23 last year during the couple’s honeymoon, and his mutilated body was found on June 2 from a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district. Sonam and several others, including her alleged boyfriend, were arrested in the case.
"The accused has been granted bail by the court. However, necessary legal procedures are being followed and the police will continue to pursue the matter as per law," SP Vivek Syiem told PTI.
According to police, Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi married Sonam on May 11, 2025, in Indore, and the couple left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20.
The autopsy report of Raja Raghuvanshi indicated that he was hit twice with a sharp object on his head.
Sonam surrendered on June 8 before the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district.
In September last year, the Meghalaya Police submitted a 790-page charge sheet, naming eight people, including his wife Sonam and her alleged boyfriend, as the accused.
