New Delhi: A 26-year-old Muslim youngster from Uttar Pradesh was brutally assaulted in Gujarat and later faced denial of treatment at several hospitals in Delhi NCR, his family alleged.

The victim, Mohammad Shoaib, a resident of Bahraich, had left Mumbai on August 14 after failing to find work and was travelling to Delhi in search of employment. Near Surat railway station, unidentified men attacked him, leaving him unconscious. He was later placed on a train to Delhi by an unknown person.

When Shoaib arrived at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, he was severely injured and weak. His family rushed him to multiple hospitals, but several reportedly refused to admit him. His uncle said that a hospital in Ghaziabad finally admitted him only after the family deposited ₹4.40 lakh. Shoaib underwent surgery and is currently recovering, though still weak.

Community leaders, including Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, condemned both the assault and the denial of medical care. “This is not just an attack on one individual but a mirror of how Muslims are being treated in the country,” Qasmi said, demanding an FIR and accountability from the hospitals.

Despite the attack, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by either Gujarat or Delhi police. Human rights lawyer Firoz Khan criticised the silence, calling it a case of “justice denied.”

Shoaib’s father, a small farmer, said the family is devastated and burdened with heavy medical expenses. “My son only wanted to earn bread for the family. Now he is fighting for his life in a hospital bed. We want justice,” he said.
